Optimist or Idiot

Earth, you flat or nah?

It’s almost hip these days to hate on humans. It’s cool to say how destructive we are and how the planet would be better off without us. The planet seems like it’s been trying to get rid of us since the dawn of existence, but now we are finally getting around to taming it. Morality has switched from “be fruitful and multiply” to “be barren and super fly”. Okay this might be a little extreme, but holy crap look how far we have come.

I’m gonna hit you with some optimistic facts instead of the doom and gloom that seems to be popular.

Furthermore, here’s a fun article the outlines how much better the life of an average American is in 2016 than the life of a Rockefeller in 1916 for some perspective.

We’re getting smarter, we live longer, we’re in a relative state of peace, we have air conditioning, the list goes on and on! The progress is astonishing and undeniable.

The Bad and the Ugly

What I’m concerned about is the mental state of the people who focus on the bad. It seems like we crave bad stories. We almost want to be in a state of panic. This is what the news reports and what we click on for reading. Our morbid curiosity seems to crave the doomsday reports and thrive on conspiracies.

Overpopulation is a giant concern. However, I’m still optimistic. The reason we’re able to overpopulate is due to science. We’re able to harness our resources and better use them to provide for the inhabitants of the earth. Yes, we’re harming the earth, but who’s to say that we won’t find tools to better use or replace our scarce resources, especially as our computers get even smarter year by year (scary).

We’re in uncharted territory and could be just one breakthrough away from drastic change. We used to be ignorant. I don’t think we knew the extent to which we were harming the earth back in the day. Today, with literacy numbers and internet access constantly climbing, awareness of environmental protection will also increase. We are humans. We’re scrappy, we’re survivors.

Humans have more time these days as well. Technology has made household chores much easier and quicker. What the heck are we going to do with all the new time? Hopefully great things so that we fully enjoy our short time here on our precious planet.

What to do?

My twin sister is my inspiration for making the world a better place. She has so much fun with using her jars and cooking zero waste. She’s even teaching people her ways in online communities. This is a healthy disease that is spreading and it fires me up. It’s examples like these that make me an optimist for human beings.

Live your life. Live sustainably. Contribute to what you want to. Monitor your b.s. intake. Love humanity. The answer is always love. The Beatles know it, and so does Elon Musk.

Want to get more optimistic? Watch this.

Daily Stoke

Article #16 and day 23? I forget

I’m super stoked right now because I think I booked my first job here in Mexico. I never believe it until I’m on set, but either way I’m stoked.

I can tell that I’m stoked when I seem to float up the stares. My whole body feels light. I interact with other people when I walk by which makes adds to the stoke level. I want to find out how to always have this state of lightness. Is it possible? Maybe. There’s going to be tough times in life and feeling those heavy emotions is a part of the human existence. Still, how does one stay in the float state?
